CIS UCPC: Information for Advisors
Requirements for Technical Electives
Faculty wishing to have a course approved as a technical elective
should submit a proposal to the UCPC in the semester prior to the
course offering. The UCPC has established the following minimal
requirements for a technical elective proposal:
- The proposal should clearly list learning objectives.
- The proposal should provide evidence that there is assessment of
the learning objectives; assessment could include midterm and final
exams related to the learning objectives.
- The course should have smaller-interval (at least 4 per semester)
work/grading/feedback cycles --- not just feedback on a project at
the end of the semester. For example: regular homework
assignments, or project with multiple checkpoints/milestones
relating to the learning objectives.
- Technical requirement: the proposal should provide evidence that
at least 50% of the course content derives from topics in the ACM
Body of Knowledge.
